EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – With Juneteenth coming up this week, the festivities have officially begun in Evansville.
The EVV Community held their 5th annual Block Party Celebration for Juneteenth at Bayard Park.
The event had music, inflatables, games, food trucks and vendors.
One organizer says although it’s about getting the community together for fun, there is a deeper meaning behind the celebration which they hope people remember.
”We just want to highlight what the meaning of Juneteenth is, which is just the freedom of everybody, just the whole nation coming together to celebrate what should be everybody’s natural right. Along with that we just want to showcase more diversity and showcase some culture.”
That event started at 10 a.m. went until 8 p.m.
Organizers say they plan to host it again next year.
