Rochester, N.Y. — The city is preparing to celebrate its rich African American roots.

The Greater Rochester MLK Commission unveiled plans Monday for the annual Rochester Juneteenth Festival, which is set to take place Saturday, June 14.

“Maintaining Infinite Hope” is this year’s theme, honoring the “resilience and unwavering spirit of those who have fought — and continue to fight — for freedom and equality.”rpreserving Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of peace and equality.

“We have celebrated Juneteenth in Rochester for the past 40 year uninterrupted,” said Simeon Banister, the commission’s chair. “Even during the pandemic, we found a way to celebrate Juneteenth to remember our history.”

The event will take place at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park.

The parade will start at 11 a.m. before the festival, which runs from 12 to 8 p.m.
