The town of Dumfries will host its second annual Juneteenth celebration on Thursday, June 19, with a petting zoo, face painting, live music, family activities and fireworks to end the day.
The event takes place from 3-9:30 p.m. at Garrison Park, 17749 Main St., Dumfries, with fireworks at 9:15 p.m.
Last year, more than 1,800 people attended, the town said in a news release.
“We’re excited to bring the community together once again to commemorate Juneteenth, honoring history, celebrating freedom, and promoting unity,” Town Manager Tangela Innis said in the release. “This event is a true reflection of Dumfries’ spirit and the joy of coming together as neighbors.”
The celebration will highlight the importance of Juneteenth as a national day of reflection and freedom, while also showcasing the town’s culture and diversity.
