
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Topeka Family and Friends Juneteenth Celebration has been honoring history long before June 19th was designated a national holiday.
They have a full slate of events planned again for their 12th annual celebration.
Norma Avery, Tylann Foston and Amoriele Davis visited Eye on NE Kansas to share what’s in store and why the commemorations are so important.
Activities got started earlier this week with a flag raising and unity walk at the Kansas Statehouse.
A highlight of the celebrations will be a parade and car show. It takes place 11 a.m. June 14 with lineup in the Kansas Judicial Center parking lot.
A Juneenth Community Celebration runs 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 21 at Hillcrest Community Center, 1800 SE 21st St.
The schedule wraps up with a Gospel Extravaganza at 3 p.m. June 22 at St. John AME Church, 701 SW Topeka Blvd.
