WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. – The City of West Memphis has cancelled their planned Juneteenth Celebration due to severe weather concerns, their Parks & Recreation Department announced.

In a post to their Facebook page Tuesday, the City of West Memphis Parks & Recreation Department announced that they were cancelling the celebration, which was originally planned for June 14.

“Due to the forecasted weather and safety concerns for our community, the City of West Memphis Parks & Recreation Department has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Juneteenth Celebration originally scheduled for Saturday, June 14, at Hightower Park,” the department said.

They did not give any further information as to whether the celebration would be rescheduled.
