Juneteenth Fest
The second annual Ernestine Jackson Juneteenth Freedom Day Parade will begin at noon and kick off the 2025 Juneteenth Fest in John Gwynn Park, the NAACP Peoria Branch said in a news release.
Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day, or Freedom Day, is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, the NAACP added. The Peoria branch named the Freedom Day Parade after the late Ernestine Jackson, an activist who served as Peoria’s first Equal Employment Opportunity officer.
