FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – Macknificent Freedom Fest brought Fort Wayne’s official Juneteenth celebration to the city’s south side Saturday.

Celebrations began at 10 a.m. with a Keepers of the Light ceremony at Weisser Park that centered around community.

At 11:30 a.m., celebrations moved to the intersection of Warsaw and Oxford Streets for the ALC Promenade, a symbolic freedom march and showcase parade to McMillen Park.

The main event, the Macknificent Freedom Fest, started at 1 p.m. in McMillen Park, offering three hours of vendors, music, dancing, educational opportunities, and more for all.

“The Macknificent Freedom Fest is a family-friendly event honoring African American history, freedom, and the best of us. It is a time to educate, organize, and celebrate,” reads the festival’s website.
