As Caribbean Heritage Month begins this June, acclaimed Guyanese-American visual artist Dionne Polite will deliver a powerful artistic statement as part of Imagination

Unchained: A Celebration of Juneteenth Through Art, Culture, and Black Brilliance. Presented by Next Weekend Productions, Inc. (NWP), the signature Juneteenth Concert Experience returns on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 8 PM, at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center (3800 NW 11th Pl, Lauderhill, FL). This year’s celebration goes beyond music to debut a bold new visual art exhibition, reflecting the event’s dynamictheme: A Multisensory Celebration of Freedom, Creativity, and Cultural Legacy. The evening will also showcase unforgettable performances by the sensational Cande Rivers, known for her acclaimed Whitney Houston Tribute.

Echo Slim, who co-produced music on the Grammy award-winning reggae album “Rapture” by Koffee, has curated the Echo Slim Artist Collective to showcase soul-stirring vocals and electrifying energy, providing a night that captivates the senses and honors the brilliance of Black culture. The 2025 event promises an unforgettable evening of immersive music, visual storytelling, community engagement, and live brand activations. Popular cultural host Frankie Red will serve as the emcee for the festivities.
Polite’s featured gallery exhibit, Visual Art as Liberation: Centering Black Stories, powerfully reflects her Caribbean roots and personal journey. Her storytelling-rich paintings, influenced by her father’s 2019 dementia diagnosis, explore themes of memory, identity, nobility, and Black resilience.
“My work doesn’t center on trauma,” Polite explains. “I want to celebrate our nobility and resilience. Across the African diaspora, we’ve flourished, no matter where we’ve landed. That’s the story I tell with every brushstroke.”

Through the lens of artists like Dionne Polite, Imagination Unchained becomes more than an event; it is a testament to the enduring spirit and boundless creativity of Black communities around the globe.
Her paintings feature regal African figures and vibrant scenes of Afro-Caribbean life, aiming to challenge stereotypes and uplift the beauty and complexity of Black identity. For Polite, Juneteenth is not only a commemoration but a sacred moment of empowerment.
“Juneteenth is a legacy celebration, remembering who we are and where we’ve come from,” she adds. “My art reflects that. I hope everyone who views it feels seen, celebrated, and inspired.”
