The New Dawn Arts Center in Ashburnham has a packed schedule for June, according to a community announcement.
Founder and Director Abigail Abbott, along with community volunteers, is introducing two new community groups aimed at fostering creativity and connection.
“Our Radical Softness Group is geared toward deep feelers, activists, artists, queer folks, young people, elders, parents, caregivers, and anyone feeling the fear and disorientation of existing in this moment in our collective history,” Abbott said. Participants can bring their works in progress and create art in a relaxed environment with neighbors and future friends on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m., starting June 2.
The center is also launching the Youth Arts Advisory Stewards Training, designed for teenagers and young adults interested in forming a youth-led Arts Advisory board at the center. This group will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, beginning June 23.
“We want to connect the young people in our community with local leaders in creative fields, as well as volunteer opportunities,” Abbott said.
In celebration of Juneteenth on June 19, New Dawn will host a group reading and discussion of Frederick Douglass’ “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” at noon. This event is free, open to all ages, and requires no registration. Light refreshments will be provided.
The center’s upcoming artist salon will feature Jessica Robey, whose exhibit on The Ebenezer Keyes Conservation Project has been on display for several months. An artist talk and Q&A session will take place at 6:30 p.m. June 14.
“Art is for everyone, so we’re excited to create a casual space that allows people to access and learn about local artists,” Abbott said.
New Dawn also offers regular weekly programming. The Writer’s Group meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Tots Music Class from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, and Yoga from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
The Writer’s Group will host local poet Sara Letourneau, author of “Wild Gardens,” for their monthly Authors Voices series from 6 to 7 p.m. June 24. The group’s regularly scheduled open mic will follow from 7 to 8 p.m.
