ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Juneteenth is almost upon us, and Atlanta is set to celebrate next weekend with its 13th annual parade and festival!
Brad Lewis, one of Juneteenth ATL’s organizers, came to Atlanta News First to discuss the holiday’s meaning and this year’s celebration plans. The parade route winds through Downtown Atlanta into Piedmont Park, which will be filled with vendors, food tents, bounce houses, music and more!
Held on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the day the last slaves in the Confederacy learned about the Emancipation Proclamation.
