INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Big Bear Shaved Ice, owned by Brian Lambert, will be making its debut at the prestigious Juneteenth Foodways Festival held at the President Benjamin Harrison site.

The festival is known for its selectivity, emphasizing heritage and cultural significance, and Big Bear Shaved Ice is excited to participate for the first time. The event features vendors who incorporate historical recipes and flavors into their offerings, celebrating the rich cultural history associated with Juneteenth.

“We’re really blessed to be a part of it this year,” Brian Lambert said. “It’s why I started this business about a year ago. In my previous profession, it was really depressing. And so this is bringing happiness to people.”

Big Bear Shaved Ice offers a variety of flavors, including unique options like ‘Zombie Virus,’ which tastes similar to Hawaiian punch, and ‘Tiger’s Blood.’ The business also features caramel-covered grapes with peanuts, adding to their diverse menu.

In addition to their shaved ice, Big Bear Shaved Ice has created a special lemonade papaya shake-up inspired by historical recipes. This drink pays homage to the first black female cook at the White House, who made specialty items for the president. The shake-up includes lemonade, papaya, lemons, and vanilla water, offering a refreshing twist on traditional flavors.

Participation in the Juneteenth Foodways Festival marks a significant milestone for Big Bear Shaved Ice, as they join a select group of vendors celebrating cultural heritage through food. The event promises to bring joy and historical appreciation to attendees, with unique offerings like the lemonade papaya shake-up.
