RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Black Hills Community Theater hosted their third annual Juneteenth celebration Saturday at the Rapid City Performing Arts Center.
The event featured a performance from historical re-enactor Joyce Jefferson, vendors from black-owned businesses, and a talent show featuring performers of various disciplines.
“We’ll have spoken word and a variety of dancing,” Theater Board Member Bernie McFarling said. “We have some hip hop-type dancing, we have Polynesian dancing. So, it’s just a really great opportunity to come out and see what talent people in the community want to share.”
Other board members credited McFarling for starting up the annual tradition three years ago and driving its growth since.
