BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Burlington celebrated Juneteenth Saturday.
The community gathered on Lower Church Street Saturday afternoon to honor Black freedom, culture and joy.
The ongoing schedule of events includes live performances, a community dinner and local vendors.
Organizers say they hope the event will highlight the relevance of Black history and liberation in the Vermont community.
“It is an important marker, not only here in the United States, but around the globe of the importance of sharing libratory news and acting for liberation on behalf of all people,” volunteer Pamela Williams said.
The festivities will continue in City Hall Park until 10 p.m. Saturday.
