
The Donaldsonville Juneteenth Committee announced a mini children’s fair will be a new addition for the 30th annual music festival set for June 14.
Tamiko Francis Garrison, who volunteers every year to help organize the event initially started by her parents, provided an update on the festival to the Donaldsonville City Council during the May 27 meeting.
The children’s fair will have free rides for four hours from 2-6 p.m., and will include a mobile video game trailer, Thomas the Train and a large swing.
The City of Donaldsonville, CF Industries and the Parish of Ascension will present the festival beginning at 11 a.m. at Louisiana Square, the park along Railroad Avenue, in front of the parish courthouse in the historic district.
The free event will include live music, food and merchandise vendors.
The lineup includes:
- George Bell and Friends (11:15 a.m.-12 p.m.)
- Total Control Band (12:30-1:30 p.m.)
- Crowning of queens (1:30 p.m.)
- Esco Soul Music (2-3 p.m.)
- Red Tape Musiq (3:30-4:30 p.m.)
- Casa Samba (4:30-5 p.m.)
- Michael Foster Project (5-6 p.m.)
- Royal Essence (6:30-7:30 p.m.)
Additionally, BASF in conjunction with the Donaldsonville Juneteenth Committee, the city and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank will hold the fourth annual food distribution at 10 a.m. June 13 at the Lemann Memorial Center, while supplies last.
The day before, June 12, an author talk will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Wag Center in the Study Commons.
Only 75 seats will be available for The Accident of Color: A Story of Race in Reconstruction by Daniel Brook.
