GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The Juneteenth celebration at Town Commons invited the community out to learn about the holiday through music and fellowship.

Many people were out and about to celebrate, as well as vendors, a band, and fireworks later on.

They also had a trolley there for guided tours of the African-American Cultural Trail before the event started.

People like business owner Tia Chapman were excited because of how important Juneteenth and the event are to them.

” I find it very important because of what Juneteenth represents, it represents freedom, ” Chapman told WITN. “Because at some point in time, we were not free. Let’s be real, but what Juneteenth represents is freedom for our culture and the world to be able to express themselves and be themselves, be business owners as myself, and so this is a dream for me.”

Chapman also said she was grateful for freedom and the legacy she is leaving to her children.
