Celebrate Juneteenth locally this year with several events put on by the Northern Kentucky Juneteenth Committee.

The first is a career fair, which will take place at the Covington branch of the Kentucky Career Center on Madison Avenuefrom 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 12. A celebration will occur later in the day at Covington Landing, also known the Gateway to Freedom, the same day from noon to 9 p.m.
There will also be two Freedom Day parades the same weekend. The first parade will take place on Saturday, June 14 starting at Randolph Park in Covington at 10 a.m. Activities, entertainment, vendors and a Black Excellence Award Ceremony will follow the parade. The second parade will take place on Sunday, June 15, at the intersection of Dixie Highway and Garvey Avenue in Elsmere, beginning at 9 a.m.
Juneteenth is a federal holiday celebrating the final delivery of the Emancipation Proclamation to enslaved populations in Texas at the end of the American Civil War.
