The Johnstown Juneteenth Celebration is set to return with a week-long series of events, starting today and running through June 19. Organizers have planned a blend of history, culture, music, and community empowerment to mark the occasion.

This year’s festivities will take place at Peoples Natural Gas Park in downtown Johnstown. Organizers said the events aim to highlight the past while promoting a vision of unity, healing, and progress for the future.

Each day will feature a different event, including an education day, a music celebration, a walk-a-thon, children’s day, a health and job fair, and a veterans’ honor ceremony. The week will conclude with a parade through downtown.

Deacon Jeffrey Wilson said, “This one’s special too because not only does it have a component of education and talks about American history, but along with that it is important because it really truly is a family event for the entire region,” an organizer said. “Everybody from all walks of life can come and enjoy themselves. It’s just a very happy friendly time that really focus on the goodness of Johnstown.”

Organizers also noted that there will be music every day, and the events are free and open to the public. They hope attendees, especially the youth, will take away messages of love, forgiveness, and togetherness.
