Pentagon City’s second annual Juneteenth Community Day is returning next week.

The free celebration, hosted by the Arlington nonprofit Challenging Racism, is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, at Metropolitan Park (1330 S. Fair Street). The event will include live music, performances and food trucks.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

“Join us on June 19th, 2025 at Metropolitan Park for a family-friendly celebration of African American culture, heritage, and the historic emancipation of enslaved Africans,” an event listing says. “Enjoy live music, cultural performances, food, and activities for all ages.”

Event organizers encouraged visitors to use public transportation to attend the event, which is just a couple blocks away from a Metro station, as street parking in the area is limited.

Challenging Racism hosts events and workshops about racial equity. The group’s executive director, Monique Bryant, is currently the Democratic endorsee for Arlington School Board.
