KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Juneteenth celebrations continue throughout the Kansas City metro as well as at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art.
The Nelson Atkins celebration includes storytelling and dance performances as well as art classes for children.
Visitors have been invited to take in the various photos and quilts that represent the nation’s newest holiday, including one that was created at the museum’s first celebration.
“We asked children and all the people who came what freedom means to them,” Sarah Hyde Schmiedler, the museum’s senior manager of community programs. “So, we have all kinds of answers from preschoolers on up to adults that are more serious and then we added it all to this quilty and we bring it out every year.”
The event is free to families and can be found at 4525 Oak St., in Kansas City, Mo.
