LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Residents of Louisville’s west end received some vital resources for cancer awareness Saturday.
Republic Bank hosted the fifth annual Juneteenth event at the YMCA on West Broadway. Guests could get free health screenings, including prostate exams. More than a hundred men signed up for the cancer screenings.
A recent National Institutes of Health study found that Black men have a higher prevalence of prostate cancer because of lower prostate exam screening rates. The screenings offer a chance at early detection.
“We’re supporting small businesses, diverse businesses, but then also trying to drive awareness for health awareness with our oral screens and our cancer screenings,” said Candy Dupree, the event’s chairwoman.
The event also featured Black and women-owned local businesses, food and more.
