Memphis will be host to a series of festivals and events marking Juneteenth over the next few weeks,

Juneteenth honors Black ancestry and the events of June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were officially told they had been freed by President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation two years prior.

In Memphis, there will be a variety of ways — from concerts to parades, trivia nights to museum outings — to mark the holiday in 2025.

Here are some events to celebrate Juneteenth in Memphis. 

Roots and Revolution: Juneteenth Black Trivia Night: June 6

Shaunee’s Place, 3719 Hickory Hill

Roots & the Revolution presents A Juneteenth Celebration — Black Trivia Game Night. The event will offer an evening of culture, community and competition celebrating Black liberation through history, music, literature, sports and more — with trivia that aims to be fun and educational. Roots and Revolution pops up at a Black-owned business in Memphis every month, and Shaunee’s Place will be the spot for the June 6 event that honors Juneteenth. Go to Eventbrite.com.

Memphis Juneteenth Festival: June 6-7

Medical District Park, Madison Avenue and Dunlap Street

The 32nd annual Memphis Juneteenth Festival at Medical District Park honors the rich cultural heritage of the community with a variety of activities including live music and dance performances showcasing local talent. There will also be a political roundtable, speeches honoring local elder men, and a fun run-walk promoting health and unity. Local food trucks will be on hand, offering everything from Southern cooking to vegetarian delicacies. The event is free. Go to Memphisjuneteenth.com.

Juneteenth Memphis Matters: June 7

Harriet Performing Arts Center, 2788 Lamar Ave.

The Harriet Performing Arts Center and the Young Actors Guild Dance and Theatre Company will host a Juneteenth Memphis Matters performance. Playback Memphis will present the performance, which is described as a “celebration and commemoration of the liberation of enslaved Black people in America, and a celebration of the African Diaspora.” Tickets: $23. Juneteenth Concert Series: June 12, 19 and 26

LeMoyne-Owen College, 807 Walker Ave.

The LeMoyne-Owen College National Alumni Association’s Juneteenth Concert Series will celebrate freedom, culture and community. Shows will take place on June 12, 19 and 26 on the historic Brownlee Hall Lawn, with performing set to include Jerome Chism, Devin Crutcher, Briana Brown, Larry Springfield, Katrina Anderson and Andre Parson. Tickets are $30 per concert or $75 for a full series pass. Proceeds benefit the LeMoyne-Owen College Annual Fund. Go to Zeffy.com.

Juneteenth Fest at Cordova: June 14

Cordova Library, 8457 Trinity Road

The Cordova Library will present its fourth annual Juneteenth Fest, which will feature Memphis businesses selling food, drinks, accessories, home decor and other merchandise. There will be a Juneteenth-themed children’s storytime, Memphis dancers, writers, poetry performances, an African drumline and more. Go to Memphis.librarycalendar.com.

Juneteenth Family Storytime: June 16

Orange Mound Library, 843 Dallas St.

The Orange Mound Library will mark Juneteenth with a Family Storytime event on June 16. The National Civil Rights Museum will host its “Small but Mighty Storytime” series that focuses on peacemaking, kindness and positive social change at the Orange Mound Library. Juneteenth at the National Civil Rights Museum: June 19

National Civil Rights Museum, 450 Mulberry St.  

The National Civil Rights Museum will celebrate the Juneteenth holiday with a Community Day with free museum admission and a focus on health equity. This is the third year Juneteenth is observed as a federal holiday, and the museum will welcome all visitors to learn more about the origins and importance of the holiday and the stories of hard-fought freedom for all. 2nd Annual Juneteenth Concert: June 19

New Daisy, 330 Beale St.

Ladies Love Tapped IN will deliver a “high-energy night of music, culture and empowerment” featuring performances by Monaleo and Ken The Man. Presented by the Tapped In, this event will honor freedom and femininity through lyrics and performances, celebrating Black excellence and the power of community. Tickets: $33-$41. Juneteenth Douglass Freedom & Heritage Festival: June 20-22

Douglass Park, 1616 Ash St.

The Juneteenth Freedom & Heritage Festival at Douglass Park is marking its 32nd year in 2025. The event will celebrate “Women of Color” and will include a parade, art contest and auction, a barbecue competition, and more. Go to Facebook.com/juneteenthdouglass.
