MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Celebrations for the Juneteenth holiday continued into the weekend with a lively parade and all-afternoon party at Penn Park on Saturday.
Dozens of friends, families, and neighbors lined the parade route or took part in the festivities themselves, creating a vibrant and joyful atmosphere.

Organizers described the event as a powerful way to honor the history and resilience of Black communities.
Among those in attendance was actor Dorien Wilson, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate the day.
“It’s important to recognize all the trials and tribulations we’ve overcome—and to acknowledge us as a people and all of our accomplishments,” Wilson said.
Joining him was actor and producer Danny Glover, who also shared his appreciation for being part of the celebration.
“This seems like a very active community that takes this seriously,” Glover said. “Juneteenth is a very important day in this country’s history.”
This year marks the 36th Juneteenth celebration in Madison and the 160th anniversary of emancipation.
