CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland’s Juneteenth Freedom Fest happens downtown Cleveland on Mall C from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 14.
The day celebrates freedom and Black culture as it commemorates the end of slavery on June 19, 1865.
Festival attendees can enjoy live entertainment, food from local Black-owned vendors, retail shopping opportunities and interactive programming for all ages.
“From the soul food and art to the music and workshops, every part of this day is designed to uplift our community and honor our journey,” Heather Holmes Dillard, principal at Raben, said in a press release. Raben is a public affairs and strategic communications firm promoting the events.
This year’s festival includes a celebration of Karamu House’s 110th anniversary. The nation’s oldest African American-producing theater, Karamu will present a tribute concert to a recently passed musical artist. This year’s honoree is soul artist Frankie Beverley and Maze.
Organizers are encouraging participants to wear all white and bring fans to join in what they’re billing as “Cleveland’s largest boots-on-the-ground line dance,” a communal activity meant to honor Karamu’s cultural legacy.
