INDIANAPOLIS (WISH)– The Children’s Museum in Indianapolis is hosting its annual Juneteenth Jamboree, a celebration filled with educational activities and live performances.

The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., aims to educate attendees about Juneteenth through storytelling, music and interactive experiences.

The museum has been celebrating Juneteenth for over 30 years, emphasizing its importance as part of American and world history.

“Juneteenth is not just Black history, it’s American history,” Angela Moore, Director of Community Initiatives at the Children’s Museum, said. “We want to create a space that talks about the importance of our history and how it can shape our future.”

The Juneteenth Jamboree will feature a variety of activities designed to engage children and families. Attendees can look forward to live performances from the Griot Drum Ensemble, the JBJ Collective jazz band and the TG Dance Youth Group.

Additionally, the museum’s resident storyteller will bring the story of Juneteenth to life in an engaging and child-friendly manner. The event will also include a community marketplace where families can shop with local vendors and access community resources.

A special display of the Miss Indy Juneteenth dress from previous years will be available for viewing until June 30, offering insight into the unique journey of past titleholders.

While the museum’s dinosaurs will not be dressed for Juneteenth, they are currently sporting basketball gear in support of the Pacers making it to the NBA finals.

The Children’s Museum’s Juneteenth Jamboree promises to be a vibrant celebration of history and culture, with activities that highlight the significance of Juneteenth. For those unable to attend, the museum will also be participating in the Indy Juneteenth Festival at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on June 21.
