AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Downtown Augusta had a Juneteenth parade starting at the James Brown Arena, celebrating the holiday early.

“It’s very important that we all come out to support it so we can continue to always have a Juneteenth Parade, so it doesn’t stop,” said Melissa Farrar, a patron.

National Action Network of CSRA had a Juneteenth parade Saturday starting at the James Brown Arena.

“I wanted to come out to celebrate my best friend Madison, and she’s in the parade. She’s a dancer,” said Gabby Cody, a patron.

Parade watchers enjoyed seeing many organizations, bands, dancers, and more walking in the parade.

“I came out here to support the Juneteenth parade and my best friend,” said Patience Scurry, a patron.

After the parade, there was a drumline competition and Community Awareness Festival at the Augusta Common, with food, resources, and craft vendors and live entertainment.
