LEOMINSTER — Stratton Players will celebrate Juneteenth events by concluding their “Play Reading” season with an original one-act drama by local playwright Cedric Arno.

The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at the Leominster Public Library, 30 West St.

His play, titled “400 Years in the Making: American Slavery on Trial – Frederick Douglass vs. The Auld Family” features characters including Douglass, author James Baldwin, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, and Alabama’s segregationist governor, George Wallace.

The audience becomes the jury — can you determine the legitimacy of American Slavery?

Area performers, including Donna Evans, Derek Craig, Psyka Solar, and Keith Laporte are among the readers who will take part in “400 Years in the Making: American Slavery on Trial – Frederick Douglass vs. The Auld Family”.

This event precedes other Juneteenth events including “Friends of Abolitionist Park” from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at Abolitionist Park, Snow Street, Fitchburg.

“Learn about Abolitionist history and the role Fitchburg residents played in the anti-slavery movement,” said Sally Cragin. “Also, witness the unveiling of the new historical panel.”

A Black Market will follow the event from 5 until 9 p.m. at Fitchburg City Hall, located at 710 Main St. Fitchburg.

Lastly, the annual “Juneteenth” Celebration will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Riverfront Park, Boulder Drive. Rain location will be Fitchburg Senior Center, 10 Wallace Avenue, Fitchburg. This event will feature special artist Kingcharlie Prince.
