The Magnolia/Columbia County Juneteenth Festival, hosted by the United Community Organization (UCO), is set for June 19-21.
There will be a three-day celebration of culture, history, and community under the powerful theme, “And Still… WE Thrive!” The event commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans while honoring the resilience and excellence of the community.
Festivities kick off on Thursday, June 19, at 7 p.m. with the highly anticipated Miss Juneteenth Pageant | Sunday’s Best Edition, held on the Albemarle Stage. This elegant showcase highlights the grace, leadership, and talent of young women across the region.
On Friday, June 20 at 7 p.m., the celebration continues with the Juneteenth Gospel Explosion at Magnolia Performing Arts Center (MPAC) on the high school campus. There will be an energizing evening of local gospel talent and powerful praise performances.
In a related note, UCO is excited to announce an open call for youth, ages 5–19, to join NexGen Voices, Columbia County’s premier community youth choir. This vibrant group of young vocalists will take center stage during the festoval at the MPAC.
Under the dynamic leadership of Larry Dunn and Demetrica Green, NexGen Voices will uplift the community through powerful songs of faith, freedom, and unity. This performance promises to be a highlight of the Juneteenth Festival, showcasing the incredible talents of our area’s youth while celebrating the spirit of the holiday.
Interested youth can sign up now at www.columbiacountyuco.com. The deadline to register is Monday, June 9.
Whether your child is new to the choir or a seasoned singer, all are welcome to be a part of this inspiring celebration.
