SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Details are out for the 2025 Juneteenth Celebration at City Springs, free and open to the public, offering a vibrant mix of educational experiences and live performances.

This year’s celebration is from 5-8 p.m. at City Springs at Roswell Road (Ga. 9) and Mount Vernon Highway. Ride share drop-off is located at 215 Johnson Ferry Road, and parking is available in the City Springs parking deck.

June 19th is a federal holiday, marking the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce the freedom of enslaved people in the United States years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.

The Juneteenth Celebration is presented by the City of Sandy Springs in partnership with the cities of Brookhaven and Dunwoody in DeKalb County.

Highlights include collaborations with local arts and educational organizations, including Namari Dance Center, LIQUID Arts & Productions and the Fulton County Public Library System.

From 5:30 to 6;30 p.m. in the Byers Theatre, Namari Dance Center’s professional artists and students will present “IMANI” — Swahili for faith — showing how spirituality sustained enslaved Africans through bondage and into freedom. Through dance, vocals, live painting, choir and spoken word, the show traces a journey from enslavement to liberation.

The Juneteenth Digital Art Exhibition will feature immersive digital and augmented reality artworks by local eighth grade and high school students in the Byers Theatre lobby. Students receive training on digital drawing and animation to create a piece that responds to the question, “How does knowing history shape our path to peace and harmony?”

Outdoor activities include the Genealogical Research Exhibit, in partnership with Family Search and the Metro Atlanta Chapter of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, and the West African Community Drum Circle.

A Juneteenth scavenger hunt is new this year on the City Green amid food trucks, games, live music and local vendors.

Sponsors include Asbury Automotive; Inspire Brands; The Law Offices of Lokey, Mobley and Doyle; Mercedes-Benz USA; Sandy Springs Together; and The Law Offices of Villard Bastien.
