June 19 lands on a Thursday this year, and America will be celebrating its newest federal holiday, Juneteenth.

The day of observance will affect the daily goings-on in Washington, D.C.

  • Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR)
  • The Department of Human Services Economic Security Administration Service Centers
  • The Virginia Williams Family Resource Center
  • The DC Health & Wellness Center (77 P St.NE)
  • DC Health Vital Records Division
  • DC Health’s Licensing and Renewal Division
  • All Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
  • The Department of Employment Services Navigation Call Center
  • The Sasha Bruce Youth Drop-In Centers
  • The Latin American Youth Drop-In Center (3045 15th Street NW)
  • The Adams Place Day Center (2210 Adams Place NE)
  • The 801 E Day Center (2722 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE)

Emergency shelters (open 24 hours):

  • New York Avenue Men’s Shelter (1355 New York Ave.NE)
  • 801 East Men’s Shelter (2722 MLK Jr. Ave. SE)
  • Adams Place Men’s Shelter (2210 Adams Place NE)
  • Emery Men’s Shelter (1725 Lincoln Road NE)
  • Pat Handy Women’s Shelter (810 5th St. NW)
  • Harriet Tubman Women’s Shelter (1910 Massachusetts Ave. SE)
  • Living Life Alternatives LGBTQ+ Shelter (400 50th St. SE)

The Downtown Day Services Center (1313 New York Ave. NW): Walk-in services provided to homeless individuals from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Zoe’s Doors Youth Drop-In Center (900 Rhode Island Ave. NE): Safe house for youth open for appointments until 7 p.m. After 7, the doors will be open for walk-ins.

DC Department of Behavioral Health (DBH):

  • The DC Stabilization Center (35 K St. NE): Free help for adults experiencing a drug/alcohol crisis, open 24 hours.
  • The Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) (1905 E St. SE): Free emergency psychiatric care for adults.
  • The Community Response Team (CRT): Supports adults by phone who are in a psychiatric or substance crisis. Call 202-673-6495.

Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR): All public outdoor spaces will be open.

Changes in Public Service Duties

The DC Department of Public Works (DPW): Trash, recycling, and food waste will not be collected on Thursday, June 19. Households that normally receive DPR services on Thursday will be moved to Friday, June 20.

Construction

  • District Department of Transportation (DDOT): Construction and work zones in non-emergency areas will be suspended on Thursday, June 19. Construction will resume Friday, June 20.
  • DC Department of Buildings (DOB): Construction is not allowed without an issued after-hours permit.

Lane Restrictions

The following lane operations will be suspended on June 19:

  • Canal Road between Chain Bridge and Foxhall Road NW
  • Rock Creek Parkway (controlled by the National Park Service)
  • 16th Street NW between Irving Street and Arkansas Avenue NW

Parking Enforcement

All parking enforcement will be suspended, with the exception of Streetcar ticketing and towing and parking at National Stadium for the baseball game.
