PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. (WTOC) – The City of Port Wentworth is set to host its third annual Juneteenth Celebration, Friday, June 20.
The event is free and open to the public and will feature a fun-filled evening for the whole family, culminating in a special performance by MegaFly.
The high-energy dance band offers an expansive song list and gifted vocalists and musicians from Atlanta.
Founder of the City of Port Wentworth’s Juneteenth celebration, Councilman Rufus Bright said, “It’s truly rewarding to witness the ongoing expansion and success of our city’s Juneteenth celebration. Commemorating this important milestone in American history by uniting the diverse individuals who call Port Wentworth their home highlights the vibrancy and strength of our community.”
Guest speakers will kick off the celebrations and reflect on the importance of Juneteenth, which was established as a federal holiday in 2020 to mark the end of slavery on June 19, 1865.
“The City of Port Wentworth is excited to present our third annual Juneteenth event,” said Gabrielle Nelson, Mayor Pro-Tem. “I encourage everyone in our community to join us and enjoy an evening of unity and celebration.”
