The NAACP Luzerne County Branch 2306 is inviting the public to its Fourth Annual Juneteenth People’s Cookout on Saturday in Wilkes-Barre.

The family-friendly, free event is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. at Martin Luther King Park on Coal Street, and aims to honor the spirit of Juneteenth by celebrating freedom, resilience and cultural heritage.

The cookout will feature free food, live music, and family games. The day will also include opportunities for community members to connect, reflect, and celebrate.

“Juneteenth marks the true beginning of freedom for all Black Americans,” said Melissa Rivers, NAACP Luzerne County Branch #2306 president. “This event is not only a celebration of that freedom, but also a chance for our community to come together, share joy, and recommit to the work of justice and equity.”

The NAACP is seeking volunteers to assist with the event, including roles at the sign-in table, food and membership stations, kids’ table, and set-up and clean-up teams.

The Juneteenth People’s Cookout reflects the NAACP’s ongoing mission to uplift Black voices, foster unity, and create a more equitable society through advocacy, education, and celebration.
