This educational and interactive exhibit focuses on the history and significance of Juneteenth

St. Clair County Community College is inviting the public to explore a new interactive exhibit honoring Juneteenth, now open in the SC4 Fine Arts Building through June 30.

Designed for all ages, the exhibit offers an engaging and educational experience that highlights the history and significance of Juneteenth, the events that led to the abolition of slavery in the United States and the ongoing journey toward freedom and equality.

The display includes a variety of visual and hands-on elements aimed at sparking reflection, learning and conversation.

A public reception to celebrate the launch of the exhibit will be held on Thursday, June 12, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Visitors will find a historical timeline, posters of key figures and creative activities such as freedom quilt and Juneteenth bracelet crafts. The exhibit also features a “countdown to freedom” timer and a video reflection station, allowing attendees to personally connect with the themes presented.

“I warmly invite all members of our college community—faculty, staff, students, and friends—to join us in honoring Juneteenth,” SC4 President Kirk Kramer said in a statement. “Our celebration is an opportunity to reflect, learn, and stand together in the spirit of freedom.”

The exhibit is open for self-guided tours Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend.
