TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – You’re invited to the Kansas Capitol to celebrate Juneteenth with a variety of free family fun.
Curtis Pitts visited Eye on NE Kansas to share what’s planned.
Pitts said Juneteenth celebrations are a great time for communities and cultures to come together to learn about each other and celebrate freedoms.
Events next week include a Heritage Luncheon. It’s at Noon Wednesday, June 18 at the Kansas Statehouse. The keynote speaker will be Dan Stanley, a military veteran, former city and state official, and former Assistant Secretary of Defense. Pitts said he believes in honoring the military during Juneteenth events because, he says, without the military, no one would have freedoms.
Tickets for the lunchone are $50 and available at www.naaausa.com.
The Kansas Statewide Juneteenth Celebration runs 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 19 on the State Capitol Grounds.
Activities include information booths, bounce houses, music and games. A car show will begin at 1 p.m., with a gospel concert at 4 p.m. and a Walk for Greatness at 6 p.m. The events are free.
