MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -Meridian is hosting its annual Juneteenth Heritage Festival this weekend.
The Black Business Expo will occur at the MAX from 6 pm until 9 pm on Friday night. Community members are encouraged to come out and have a great time with music, food, vendors, and a modeling showcase.
The Juneteenth festivities aim to spread awareness and involve people in their history.
”Juneteenth means to me it’s that time that we recognize and honor our past, but we treasure the future. So many different things have happened in this community by African American businesses and entrepreneurs, and we also want to celebrate those moving forward, so come out and celebrate with us. It’s something positive for the community and good to do,” says Terrence David, City of Meridian Cultural Affairs Coordinator.
More Juneteenth festivities begin this weekend with the Pickleball Tournament on Saturday starting at 7 am, then from 12 pm until 4 pm the Mississippi Children Museum of Meridian is hosting Juneteenth Kidzone, and following that on the City Hall Lawn is the Trail Ride contest and concert, Sunday at the Temple Theater will be the Juneteenth Gospel Play titled “Freedom Day” doors open at 5 pm play begins at 6 pm. Wednesday is the Trailblazer Awards Gospel Celebration. Terrence Davis encourages everyone to come out and enjoy this weekend, which is full of festivities.
