TYLER, Texas — Small drivers buckled in and put the pedal to the metal Saturday morning for the second annual Powerwheel Parade hosted by the Juneteenth Association of Tyler.
One kid piloted a tiny tractor, another settled in behind the wheel of a miniature Ford Ranger. Others rolled down the street in little convertibles.
Regardless of the type of vehicle, everyone was having fun.
All month long, the Juneteenth Association of Tyler puts on events to celebrate Juneteenth, a federal holiday that celebrates the emancipation of slaves in the United States.
The main parade will be held June 14. But on Saturday, it was all about the kids.
“There’s never a parade that the whole community can come and see them come down,” Butler said. “This gives us a way to give back to them so that we can see them perform.”
Butler said with more events on the horizon, she hopes to see a diverse mix of people at the upcoming festivities.
“It’s not just our holiday, it’s for everybody,” Butler said.
