ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) – The Tolson Center for Community Excellence in Elkhart got a jump start on celebrating Juneteenth by holding a festival on Saturday.
It’s the first time the Tolson Center has hosted a Juneteenth event. The center took the opportunity to showcase kids from several of its clubs and programs, such as choir and dance.
Tolson Center Executive Director Breanna Allen says it’s important for the center to honor and highlight the holiday.
“This is a day of unity, freedom of enslaved slaves here in America, so we’re really excited to be out here and showcasing our young talent that has been out here and a part of our center,” she said.
The Tolson Center reaches across generations and cultures to serve the Elkhart community and beyond. For more information on the center, click here.
