FLINT, Mich. – Flint is celebrating the holiday of Juneteenth with 23 free community events over 23 days.

The Traditional Flint Juneteenth Celebration features entertainment, educational and spiritual events from May 31 through June 22.

Made a U.S. Federal Holiday in 2021, Juneteenth National Independence Day is celebrated on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States.

This year marks Flint’s 53rd annual celebration, an effort spearheaded by the late “Mother” E. Hill DeLoney whom the event is held in memory of. This year, the theme is “Celebrating 160 Years of Black History.”

DeWaun Robinson, the chairperson of the 2025 Juneteenth Celebration and the president of Black Lives Matter Flint, says the event is for everyone.

“These are historic times we are in, and it’s going to take every one of us to stand on the right side of liberation. Black history is American history,” said Robinson. “Juneteenth events are open to everyone, and we invite our community members to check out all the activities to find a couple that speaks to you. From Mama Sol at the Flint Cultural Center, to Healing Circles at King Peace Park, to Financial Literacy classes, and so many more options, there will be something for everyone to learn, grow, and just enjoy.”

Some of the events on the itinerary include ““A Day At The Lake” that introduces children and youth to fishing and other life skills, a community-based public health caucus and performances celebrating the Heritage and Legacy of the Flint Community.

The event culminates in a Juneteenth gathering at Max Brandon Park and parade into downtown Flint. After the parade, there will be an Afrobeats Party with live music, food trucks, vendors and family activities.
