SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Two moms in the Savannah area are celebrating Juneteenth by releasing a book hair care for little girls.

They call themselves Two Brown Moms and wrote the book so girls like their daughters can develop a love for their hair at an early age.

Teleah Jones and Bryonne Hollins have known writing children’s books was in their future even before they became moms. They’ve known each for over a decade.

The pair have been childhood best friends since 2012.

When asked about when their friendship started, the pair responded, “since the 8th grade. 2012? Yea 2012.”

Their first book, My Hair Care 123 and ABCs is one they hope will help with their girls and many children of color fall in love with their crown.

“When you’re growing up and you have curly hair, a lot of time you think your hair is nappy and sometimes you just don’t know how to care for it, and I think we both went through that stage. We both did our big chops within months of each other,” said Co-Author Jones.

Jones said they’re giving the next generation something they wish they had growing up.

“It should be love from the start so once you teach that to your child, there’s no issue. They just know, okay I might have to take care of it a different way and I that’s something we really want to implement in kids all over,” said Co-author Jones.

For Byronne Hollins, she wants what most moms want, to make her child proud.

“It’s about my hair, it’s about me. The book looks like me and she can go back to it and say this is something that I will go back to be proud of my mom about,” said Co-Author Hollins

Their book details nearly all the products needed to style natural hair.

“If you adopted a child that’s a person of color or anything, this book can help. What products you can get for your child. There’s a lot of people who don’t know anything about hair. You can use this book and it has all the hair care products that we normally use on an everyday basis and then it also teaches your child ABC’s and 123′s and that’s important to know in the early stages of childhood,” said Co-Author Hollins.

Their book will be available to purchase on Amazon beginning on Juneteenth.
