WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – The 12th Annual Watertown Juneteenth celebration kicks off next week.

Organizer Bianca Ellis and guest speaker Gwen Webber-McLeod appeared on 7 News at Noon on Wednesday to talk about the event. Watch their interview above.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday and is celebrated to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States.

The celebration kicks off next Wednesday at noon with a flag raising ceremony at Watertown City Hall. Neo-jazz fusion artists, Shawn Seals and SMX, will be performing at the farmers market.

The next day, June 19th, Juneteenth Day is celebrated in Thompson Park at the newly dedicated Walker Bandstand.

There will be vendors, live music, art, and more from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Webber-McLeod, a published author and president/CEO of Gwen, Inc., is the guest speaker.
