Kings Mountain will be hosting its annual Juneteenth celebration next month and will feature a Grammy award-winning record producer, artist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter.
Ron Feemster, a 1999 graduate of Kings Mountain High School, is one of the performers at this year’s celebration, which is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, at Patriots Park in Kings Mountain.
“When you miss home, the sweetest opportunity is the one that allows you to see family, friends and loved ones, while celebrating freedom and doing what God has purposed you for” said Ron ‘Neff-U’ Feemster.
Last year, Juneteenth attracted 2,850 people and this year’s is expected to exceed that.
According to a news release, the program has been deliberately enhanced to greater satisfy families, kids and the local community with a sponsor-ready Kid’s Zone, arts, activities, DJs, local performances and a partnership between two local organizations; the Davidson Association and Maurice and Brandy Tate’s KM Elite, ensuring that every angle from music, dancing, arts, crafts and activities is covered to maximize the experience.
Feemster, who attended Berklee School of Music in Boston, saw his career take off in 2001 after being discovered by Will Smith and Dr. Dre. He has worked with Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Bono from U2, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones and many others. He has recently worked with Bebe Rexha, Justin Bieber and Train.
He was inducted into the Cleveland County Music Hall of Fame in 2022.
Feemster takes the stage at Patriots Park in Kings Mountain at 6:45 p.m., Saturday June 21.
Sponsors will be treated to a meet and greet hosted by 133 West and The Skillet.
The event coordinators, Leroy and Janie McVay, are seeking additional sponsors to cover costs for the Juneteenth festivities, but display a confidence that organizations and local businesses are actively getting involved to aid in meeting the events budget estimated at $27,300.
“Everything costs except a ticket to get in, that’s free.” said Janie McVay, “The city of Kings Mountain and the Mauney Memorial Library have been gracious with support, both financially and as a resource in event planning.”
