YORK, Pa. (WHTM) — The City of York celebrated its second annual Juneteenth Family Cookout on Saturday.
It was held at Penn Park.
Families brought grills and favorite cookout foods along with lawn chairs and yard tents.
Those who were there say it was a lot of fun, but that the Juneteenth holiday is about so much more.
“It’s a community cookout for everybody to get together and pretty much celebrate black excellence and celebrate Juneteenth and what the holiday means as a whole,” Diaz Woodard, Health Outreach Coordinator for WellSpan Health, said. “We’re out here, there’s tons of families out here, we have other organizations that are out here.”
President Joe Biden declared Juneteenth a holiday in 2021 to remember and celebrate the emancipation of enslaved Americans.
