
MEXIA, Texas (FOX 44) – Mexia is celebrating Juneteenth with five days’ worth of exciting events!
The Limestone County 19th of June organization has been hosting its annual celebration for 159 years, making this the longest Juneteenth celebration in American history. Several events are taking place from June 15 through June 19. Most events are taking place at 291 Lcr 317 in Mexia.
The Juneteenth Pre-Celebration took place on June 15. A parade took place at 10 a.m. at FM-2681, with a special meet-and-greet event following afterwards. The Ms. Juneteenth Pageant took place at 4 p.m., with a concert by Vibe the Band following at 7 p.m.
The Beginning of Juneteenth Celebration took place on June 16. A special event held at 4 p.m. featured Rev. Cummings and local churches, in addition to memorial acknowledgements and a special performance by Phelicia Rashid. A concert featuring Joe Carmouche and Band followed at 7 p.m.
Special live performances, open mic and karaoke took place on June 17. The Redeem Team took the stage for a special ceremony at 4 p.m., with Jeff Aycock performing at 7 p.m.
Family Fun Day is taking place on June 18! The fun starts at noon, with special performances by Mama Jo Skit at 4 p.m. and the Front Cover Band at 7 p.m.
There will be a special Juneteenth service at 11 a.m. on June 19. The Juneteenth Pageant and Scholarship Award will be taking place. The featured speaker is Hurtis Rhodes.
In addition, DJ Dolla will take the stage at 7 p.m. on June 19.
