Roads expected to be impacted on June 14 for Peoria’s Juneteenth parade

PEORIA (25News Now) – Several roads and intersection along the MacArthur Highway corridor will have restricted access during the Ernestine Jackson Juneteenth Freedom Day Parade on Saturday June 14.

The parade starts at noon, but traffic will be impacted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Parking restrictions will also be in place at that time.

Throughout the course of the parade, drivers are advised to use caution along the parade route and follow all marked detours or take a different route altogether.

The parade will begin on S. MacArthur Highway, just south of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, travelling north on S. MacArthur Highway, east on W. John Gwynn Jr. Avenue, south on S. Richard Pryor Place, southeast on Persimmon Street, west on S.W. Jefferson Avenue, and ending at the intersection of S.W. Jefferson Avenue and S. MacArthur Highway.

The following roads will be closed for the parade starting at 9 a.m.

  • New Street at W. Howett Street.
  • New Street at S. MacArthur Highway.
  • W. Howett Street at Linden Street.
  • Howett Street at S. MacArthur Highway.
  • Millman Street at S. MacArthur Highway.
  • Millman Street at Linden Street.

Then, at 11:30 a.m., the following roads will also close:

  • MacArthur Highway at S.W. Jefferson Avenue to W. Moss Avenue.
  • Persimmon Street at S.W. Jefferson Avenue.
  • Brotherson Street at S. MacArthur Highway.
  • McBean Street at S. MacArthur Highway and at N. Richard Pryor Place.
  • Johnson Street at S. MacArthur Highway and at N. Richard Pryor Place.
  • Smith Street at S. MacArthur Highway.
  • Hurlburt Street at S. MacArthur Highway and at N. Richard Pryor Place.
  • Aiken Avenue at S. MacArthur Highway.
  • Adrian G. Hinton Jr. Avenue at S. MacArthur Highway.
  • John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue at S. MacArthur Highway and at N. Richard Pryor Place.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at S. MacArthur Highway.
  • McReynolds Court at W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue.
  • Village Green Court at W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue.
  • Merriman Court at W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue.
  • Braves Court W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue.
  • Richard Allen Drive at W. Romeo B. Garrett Avenue.
  • W. Reed Street at N. Richard Pryor Place.
