WATERLOO, Iowa — Waterloo’s 30th annual Juneteenth celebration concluded today at Sullivan Park. While Juneteenth was observed on Thursday, most of the city’s celebrations took place over the weekend.

Attendees endured the heat to enjoy a lively atmosphere filled with local food vendors, clothing merchants, and local artists.

Organizers highlighted the event’s dual purpose as a celebration and a reminder of the holiday’s importance.

Event Coordinator LaTanya Graves said, “We need to stand united. When we have events, it’s open to everyone, so we’re here to show people that Waterloo is not a bad place. There are so many great organizations that put on different events, and all you just have to do is attend and participate.”

All proceeds from the event were donated to the African American Historical and Cultural Museum on East Fourth Street in Waterloo.
