The Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly narrowly approved Juneteenth, or June 19, as an official paid holiday for borough staff at its meeting on Thursday.
The 5-4 decision would increase the number of paid holidays to 12, and the number of overall paid days off to 14, pending final agreement with the borough’s unions.
