
BROOKINGS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – For the sixth year, the Brookings Human Rights Commission will host its Juneteenth Celebration at Pioneer Park.
Beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, all community members are welcome to attend the free event featuring live music, a community drum circle, kids’ activities and games, and food.

Juneteenth commemorates the liberation of enslaved black Americans in 1865. It was declared a federal holiday in 2021.
