LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The city of Las Vegas held its annual Juneteenth flag-raising ceremony at City Hall.
As part of the celebration, Mayor Shelley Berkley issued a proclamation recognizing Juneteenth Independence Day in the city.
The flag-raising festival also announced who will be performing at the Juneteenth festival, including actress/singer Syndee Winters from “The Lion King,” and Street Corner Renaissance from NBC’s “The Sing Off.”
Observed on June 19, Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when more than 250,000 enslaved Black Americans in Texas were finally freed, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
The Juneteenth Festival kicks off on Thursday, June 19, on Water Street in Henderson.
