MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The City of Memphis will be celebrating Juneteenth with its annual festival this weekend.
And all are invited.
The Juneteenth Festival is from June 14-15 at the Health Sciences Park located at Madison Avenue and South Dunlap Street in Memphis. It takes place between 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
The event is in observance of Juneteenth Day, which is a federal holiday marking the end of slavery.
Besides food, live music and a walk-thru history museum, the festival will have several events and activities at the park, including:
- Greek Forest of Trees from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday, June 14 (with judging at 5 p.m. Saturday)
- Car Exhibition from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 15
- Greek Yard Show at 6 p.m., Saturday, June 15
- Health and Wellness Tent during both days
FOX13’s Jeremy Pierre will be hosting the Greek Yard Show.
This weekend’s event is taking place at a park with historic reverence, according to Dr. Telisa Franklin, the festival’s president and CEO.
“This park is a park for all Memphians,” she said. “This park represents freedom. And now because of that, we’re the only Juneteenth in the world that has a Juneteenth celebration on a park where there was once buried the slave masters of the KKK.”
