(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Tuesday is Constitution Day and Chicago celebrated by welcoming more than 100 new Americans.

Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Janus, the son of Greek immigrants, spoke at the naturalization ceremony at Quincy Court by the Dirksen courthouse on the 200 block of South Dearborn Street.

“Every single one of you makes the United States stronger. You make us stronger by adding your unique cultural and personal experiences. Don’t ever forget that.”

Swatee Borkar is originally from India and has been waiting 20 years to become a U.S. citizen.

She was asked about the challenges the United States is facing.

“The challenges are with all countries, you know. There is racism in all countries, even in India, so it’s nothing new. It’s just how you react, and put yourself forward.”

Jesus Ramirez is originally from Mexico.

“Yeah. I love this country. I love my family. Yeah, I love everything, everything that the United States has offered to me. And I’m very humble to be part of this country.”

Many of the new U.S. Citizens also registered to vote immediately after being sworn in.
