SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Spencer Cox announced Friday that a special legislative session will take place next week. The special session happens on Wednesday, which falls on Juneteenth. The governor’s office said it would observe Juneteenth on Monday, June 17.
A press release from Cox’s office said the session would address “several matters of urgent state business.”
According to the governor’s proclamation, seven items will be taken up during the session.
Special legislative session to discuss coal plant in Delta
The first matter on the agenda is an amendment to a bill that allows the state to take control of a coal plant near Delta, Utah.
Back in May, KSL at Night co-host Rusty Canon gave an explanation on the subject.
“It’s an 1800-mega-watt coal-fired power plant, that’s a big one. Essentially this plant… keeps the lights on in Los Angeles. That’s a big power market.”
California said it is moving towards natural energy and doesn’t want coal-powered energy anymore.
